Is Realme 12 5G and 12+ 5G Waterproof?

Realme, the most popular smartphone manufacturer, has just introduced its latest devices, the Realme 12 and the Realme 12+, with several interesting features and specs, to the Indian market. With that, several realme enthusiasts were very keen to know about the specifications, features, and other details of the realme 12 and 12+ devices. But most importantly, are they truly waterproof?
Is Realme 12 Waterproof?
Realme’s two latest and just-launched devices, the Realme 12 and the Realme 12+, have arrived with several interesting specs, but as the specs and features are essential, their durability and protection level are equally important too. One such protection and durability factor is waterproofing capacity, which is determined by the IP certification.
IP Certification and Its Significance
Most smartphone manufacturers, whether big or small, incorporate an IP certification within their devices, which is the measure of protection level needed to withstand dust and water. The realme has offered an IP54 rating to the realme 12 and 12+ devices, making them a dust- and water-resistant device. So, the realms 12 and 12+ are water-resistant devices and not waterproof. But how? Well, here’s the explanation.
The IP, or Ingress Protection Rating, is a standard level of mark that’s given to the device when it’s tested against solid ingress (fine dust and sand) and liquid ingress (water. In terms of realms 12 and 12+, the first digit following an IP rating is for solid ingress, while 6 is considered the highest protection against solid particles. However, the devices have 5 as their first digit of an IP rating, which means that the devices are only dust-resistant.
Limitations in Waterproofing
On the flip side, the second digit following the IP rating denotes the protection against liquid ingress, which is water, while with regards to the realme 12 and 12+ devices, the second digit is 4, which means that the devices can only handle a few splashes of water, making them just water-resistant and not waterproof.
