iOS 17 Features: Journal, Contact Posters, Live Voicemail, FaceTime, StandBy, And More

On 05 June 2023, Apple announced iOS 17, a significant release that upgrades the communication experience across phones, Makes sharing even more accessible, and Provides more intelligent input, new experiences with Journal, and more. According to Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of software engineering, Apple has made the iPhone more personal and intuitive with iOS 17 by taking a deeper look at the features we rely on daily.

iOS 17 Features:

Contact Posters

With iOS 17, you can customize how they appear, bringing a completely new look to incoming calls, and choose beautiful treatments for photos or Memoji, as well as eye-catching typography and font colors with the personalized Contact Posters. This significant change comes under the Phone app to improve the iPhone experience. In other words, Contact Posters give users a new way to express themselves and provide a completely new look to incoming calls.

Live Voicemail 

iOS 17 introduced Live Voicemail, which also improves your Phone app experience. This new feature allows users to view a real-time transcription as someone leaves a voicemail and gives the caller a chance to leave a message. Plus, powered by the Neural Engine, live voicemail transcription is handled on-device and stays completely private.

FaceTime

The latest version of iOS brings the FaceTime feature that now supports audio and video messages so that when users call someone who is not available, they can share a message that can be enjoyed later. 

Furthermore, FaceTime calls become more expressive with reactions like hearts, balloons, fireworks, laser beams, rain, etc. According to the blog post, the new effects can be activated through simple gestures, and third-party video calling apps can also take advantage of them.

Messages Fresh Look:

With iOS 17, Messages receives significant updates. This includes a new sticker experience with new emoji stickers and the ability to create Live Stickers by choosing themes from photos. Plus, iPhone users can also add effects to Live Stickers that bring them to life, and a new drawer in the keyboard puts all of a user’s stickers in one place for easy access across iOS.

New Messages app features enhance the way users communicate. It comes with advanced and powerful search filters, a catch-up arrow indicates, a location-sharing feature, a new Check-In tool, and more.

AirDrop And NameDrop

With iOS 17, AirDrop gets new ways to share. Makes it easy to share a file with a colleague or send photos to friends and family in seconds. On the flip side, NameDrop helps users easily share contact information by bringing their iPhone or iPhone and Apple Watch together.

Journal

Apple is introducing a new dedicated journaling app called “Journal” as part of iOS 17. The new app helps iPhone users express and practice gratitude through journaling, which has been shown to improve well-being. This application can provide personalized suggestions to help motivate the user’s journal entry using on-device machine learning. Personalized recommendations are intelligently curated from recent activity, including photos, people, places, workouts, etc.

StandBy

iOS 17 introduces a brand new Standby feature that allows users a full-screen experience with glanceable information designed to be viewed from a distance when the iPhone is on its side and charging.

It’s perfect on a nightstand, kitchen counter, or desk and can be customized to display an array of beautiful clock styles, favorite photos, or widgets, including Smart Stacks, which surface the right widgets at the right times.

AirTag 

AirTag can be shared with up to five other people with iOS 17, allowing friends and family to keep track of an item in Find My.
