Android 15 Developer Preview 2 Introduces Option to Disable Default 60fps Frame Rate Limit

Just a while ago, Google introduced the latest update of Android 15 in the form of Developer Preview 2, which has started to roll out with some significant and noticeable tweaks and enhancements, including the expansion of the satellite connectivity support, screen record detection, and more. With that, the latest Developer Preview 2 also comes with a new setting that allows developers to manually disable the maximum frame rate that is set to 60 FPS by default.

As of now, users are bound to play games with the maximum frame rate, which is fixed at 60 FPS by default even if you own a powerful gaming device, but with the Android 15 developer preview 2, Google has added the new flexibility, allowing users to have their gameplays by using their phone’s entire potential under the hood.

As shared by Mishaal Rahman on X, an all-new setting has been added within the latest Android 15 Developer Preview 2 that allows developers to disable the maximum frame rate that is set to 60 FPS by default for games. The new enhancement has been added within the developer options tab, which means this is not for end users. Thus, this new frame rate setting will provide developers with the flexibility to enable the games to run beyond 60 FPS if the phone is capable of it.

In contrast, it’s important to note that the new frame rate setting is only developed for the changes required in the default frame rate of the phone, while it’s not intentionally made to affect the maximum frame rate that your device is capable of. Out of the box, when you enable this setting, you will be able to have intensive gameplay that can go beyond 60 FPS, but in case you are unable to have some intensive gaming sessions even at 60 FPS, you will not notice any changes even after disabling the default frame rate settings.
