Google Play Store might launch new Material You buttons soon
Material You is Google’s newest design language for Android, Chrome OS, Wear OS, and other platforms. Google has been quietly but gradually upgrading many of its popular applications with Material You components over the past several months.
Back in October, Google Play Store got a partial Material You revamp, which included a pill-shaped search bar, an updated bottom navigation bar, and dynamic color theming on Android 12. Google is already working on another revamp for the Play Store, which will include Material You buttons across the app.
9to5Google discovered signs of an imminent Play Store revamp in their latest APK teardown. The update introduces a new button style across the Play Store, replacing the present rectangular buttons with rounded edges with pill-shaped buttons that adhere to Material You design principles.
The Material You button specification and design
In contrast to Material Design 2, which employed rectangles with slightly rounded edges, Material You makes use of pill-shaped buttons.
9to5Google enabled a Play Store that uses the new button layout everywhere, including app listings for “Install,” “Update,” and “Uninstall.” It makes the buttons look shorter visually. The buttons may also be found on the “Pending downloads” page.
Meanwhile, the “Manage applications & device” section no longer employs the oblong shapes for the “Installed” dropdown, as well as the “Updates available” and “Games” filters and other features. Given that buttons are a more prevalent design feature than chips, it’s a reasonable inversion.

Despite the additional buttons, there is no new instance of Dynamic Color, including on the buttons.
As previously stated, 9to5Google enabled this minor Material You button makeover with the most recent version of the Play Store so it has not yet been made available to end consumers.
