Android 15 Beta 1 Introduces a New Repair Mode on the OnePlus 12 but Needs Some Refinements.
The work on the next version of the Android operating system, the Android 15, is in full swing, while there are still several months left for the official stable release. Now that Google has expanded the Android 15 Beta 1 build to more Android manufacturers, other Android partners, including OnePlus, have started distributing the first version of the Android 15 Beta release to their eligible models. Meanwhile, the new Android 15 Beta 1 build is now available on the premium flagship, the OnePlus 12, which significantly introduces a new Repair Mode, though it still needs some improvements.
Android 15 Beta 1 Repair Mode To OnePlus 12, which is useful but still needs some refinement
The OnePlus 12 has already received the new Android 15 Beta 1 build. With that, a new Repair Mode has been added that significantly allows users to skip resetting their phone while sending it for repair, ensuring more privacy and security of the user’s data. The new Repair Mode protects your personal information, allowing you to send your phone for a repair without requiring you to wipe out all the personal data while ensuring your security and privacy.
Meanwhile, the Repair mode was introduced on Google Pixel phones with the Android 14 QPR 1 build, while Samsung also added Maintenance mode with One UI 5.0-based Android 13. Though the names are different, both offer similar functionalities. However, the OnePlus’ Repair mode starts with the basic phone setup, while the next process follows the one we receive on a fresh phone. This includes choosing your language, region, Google Account, and so on, which is still a waste of some time.
Also, whether OnePlus is using Android’s Dynamic System updates or relying on creating a new user profile to implement the Repair mode is yet to be confirmed. While it’s quite possible that the OnePlus might not introduce the Repair mode on the next OxygenOS 15-based Android 15, if it is to make its way to the OxygenOS 15, then the OnePlus should make some refinements by allowing users to skip that time-consuming setup process and bring the feature directly on the phone’s home screen.
