Nothing OS 2.5.6 update arrives for Nothing Phone 1: Brings New Features, Improvements and Bug Fixes

Carl Pei’s Nothing is an emerging player in the Android smartphone industry, which has attracted the audience with the introduction of its incredible Nothing Phone series. Meanwhile, the brand has launched the Nothing Phone (1) two years back in 2022, and now, this model is receiving a new software update that brings some new features, improvements and bug fixes. 

Nothing has announced that it’s rolling out a new software update Nothing OS 2.5.6 to the Nothing Phone (1), while the Nothing Phone (2) as well as the Phone (2a) has already received this latest update. This new update houses some new features that adds a Hide navigation bar to provide a more immersive experience, adds a new swipe function for setting the Glyph brightness, adds an Ultra HDR support in camera, and optimizes the interaction for editing widgets on the home screen. 

The latest update to the Nothing Phone (1) further brings several improvements to the call stability, support for sending or receiving SMS over 5G and adds support for VoWiFi for certain carriers while also fixing several issues that causing problem in WhatsApp’s recording function, and fixing the issue where the volume bar keeps popping up.

New features

• Added a “Hide navigation bar” feature for more full-screen immersive experience. Accessed via Settings > System > Gestures > Navigation mode > Gesture navigation settings > Hide navigation bar.
• Optimised the interaction for editing widgets on the home screen. You can now long-press widgets to access that widget’s shortcuts menu.
• New swipe function in the Glyph interface for better setting the Glyph brightness.
• Introduced support for Ultra HDR feature in Camera, supporting XDR display effect for photos.

Improvements

• Introduced a recovery mechanism for abnormal call states to improve call stability.
• Ensure the screen stays off when the power key is pressed during an incoming call to enhance privacy and prevent accidental touches.
• Added support for sending and receiving SMS over 5G for certain carriers.
• Added VoWiFi support for certain carriers .

Bug Fixes

• Fixed an issue causing recording problems in WhatsApp under specific paths.
• Resolved the issue where dialling 111 in the UK redirected to the 999 emergency number in some scenarios.
• Fixed a problem where the volume bar kept popping up when connected to car Bluetooth.
