OnePlus, the great Chinese smartphone brand, unveiled its next and latest smartphone, the OnePlus 12 5G, a while ago in its Smooth Beyond Belief launch event. The device has arrived with several impressive features and specifications, from its most prominent and power-efficient Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset to its astonishing 120Hz ProXDR display. Despite featuring such amazing features, several users wonder whether the device is protected against water or not. Read on to know: Is the OnePlus 12 5G Waterproof?

A smartphone should be capable of withstanding water splashes in order to make it worth the penny that we are paying for it, not just performance and durability. In a similar context, the OnePlus 12 comes with an IP65 certification, which certainly makes it a tough protector against water splashes and dust. But what do the IP ratings stand for?

IP Rating and Water Resistance

The IP, or ingress protection rating, is the protection certification that’s given to a specific device when it’s being tested in some controlled and certified laboratories. There are two kinds of ingress: solid ingress, which is dust particles, and liquid ingress, which is water. At the same time, a lot of big smartphone manufacturers incorporate IP ratings on their respective devices.

With regards to the OnePlus 12, it is incorporated with an IP65 rating, which certainly means that the first digit following the IP rating is basically for solid ingress, that is, dust protection, and it’s 6, which is considered to be the highest marking that makes the device fully resistant to dust particles.

On the flip side, the second digit following an IP rating denotes that the device is being tested for liquid ingress, which is water. In the case of the OnePlus 12, the second digit following the IP rating is 5, which means that device is just water-resistant. This certainly makes the device tough enough to handle the water splashes, but it’s not waterproof as it will not be able to handle water immersion.
