Coming with the One UI 5.1.1, out of the box, not only the cover screen, but the smartphone also sports some amazing and advanced features, like the device is powered with Qualcomm’s powerful next-gen chipset, re-designed proprietary Hinge, stunning dual camera setup and more. 

Samsung ensures the latest and advanced technologies in its Galaxy smartphones. Despite having so many impressive features, the main question is whether the Galaxy Z Flip 5 can withstand the capability of being waterproof or if it’s just water-resistant. 

What is IPX8 Ratings? 

Moreover, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 sports an IPX8 rating, while the first digit following the IP or the Ingress Protection ratings indicates that the smartphone is resistant to solid particles such as dust, dirt, or sand. In contrast, the second or the last digit in the IP ratings indicates that the smartphone is resistant to liquid substances like water. The IPX8 ratings state that the device has been tested with higher standards.

Coming with the IPX8 ratings, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 is not waterproof, but it’s water-resistant. This is because the last digit, 8, provides the highest level of protection against liquid substances like water. The 8 in the IP ratings of Galaxy Z Flip 5 highlights that the smartphone is water-resistant and not waterproof. 

The IPX8 ratings in the Galaxy Z Flip 5 specify that the smartphone is fully certified to handle water and rain slash and can even survive in freshwater immersion up to 1.5 meters and up to 30 mins. Do note that it’s capable of handling only freshwater immersion, so if you are planning to go for a swim in the pool, it’s highly advised not to take the smartphone with you as the chemicals and other substances present in the contaminated/salty water can adversely affect the functioning of your smartphone.
