Oppo Reno 4 gets virtual RAM expansion with the September 2021 security update

The Oppo Reno 4 launched this year is receiving a new software update which comes with the September 2021 security patch and a new feature called RAM expansion. DRE helps expand the existing RAM of a smartphone using its onboard storage. This feature is only available on phone models with an internal storage of 128GB or higher.

What is dynamic RAM? This feature can borrow additional space from storage and allot it to RAM, to ensure a seamless performance. In other words, the smartphone will borrow some storage space and use it for RAM functions.

Reno 4 is getting new features along with bug fixes and improvements. Alongside DRE, it is also getting optimized system performance and stability improvements.

Circling back to the Reno 4, the firmware that brings the September 2021 patch and RAM expansion to this Snapdragon 720G-powered smartphone has version number CPH2113_11_C.41, requires a download of 900MB, and is currently seeding in the Philippines.

However, the size of the update has not been mentioned. The update will roll out in increments and is expected to reach all eligible smartphones automatically over the air. Keen users can head to Settings > System > Software update.

HOW TO USE THE VIRTUAL RAM FEATURE

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Now scroll down and then go to about phone.
  3. Tap on the RAM ( where it’s showing the RAM info).
  4. Now turn on the option for RAM expansion and with the help of the Slider, select the amount of RAM you want to expand.
  5. And also after it has been selected, please restart the device for the changes to take effect.
