Samsung Electronics and Orange today announced a number of new initiatives that will further strengthen their long-term strategic collaboration to improve Samsung Galaxy user experiences throughout Europe.
The two companies will work together to reduce waste and extend the lifecycle of mobile devices; to implement device and technology testing in preparation for the arrival of 5G standalone; to promote the Samsung Galaxy multi-device experience, and to improve the mobile customer journey with advanced digital services.
Samsung and Orange aims to reduce mobile equipment waste, advance 5G services and enhance multi-device digital experiences
By prolonging the lives of a typical product, the firms are working together to decrease waste associated with Samsung mobile devices supplied by Orange. Orange will extend the trade-in and collection programs for old Samsung smartphones, as well as provide a Samsung Certified Refurbished device program via their channels.
Furthermore, the cooperation will utilize the introduction of the Eco-Rating methodology across Samsung Galaxy devices, a pan-industry effort led by a consortium of European mobile operators. The new grade will assess the environmental effect of mobile phones over their entire existence, from design to disposal, enabling Samsung and Orange to make further improvements.
“Samsung is dedicated to innovative, strategic partnerships that enable us to scale positive impact around the world,” said Bryan Choi, Executive Vice President and Head of Strategic Marketing of Mobile eXperience Business, Samsung Electronics. “We are pleased to strengthen our relationship with Orange and see Galaxy devices being recycled and reused in different ways and to help provide a more seamless experience for the Galaxy community.”
As part of this arrangement, Samsung and Orange are planning to provide sophisticated 5G standalone (SA) services. End-to-end testing of Samsung devices and technologies such as network slicing and voice will take place on Orange’s 5G SA test networks as part of the agreement. The approach will investigate novel use-cases enabled by 5G SA network capabilities to serve both sophisticated industrial and entertainment-related applications.

These two companies are also deepening their partnership in order to provide Orange consumers with a connected experience powered by Samsung Galaxy smartphones. This multi-device strategy will be implemented in Orange shops and online channels to complement Orange’s multi-service strategy, providing end customers with an immersive and seamless mobile experience.
On a single mobile software configuration, Samsung will provide SIM-based customization of its mobile devices for Orange consumers. The identification and easy installation of important Orange apps on compatible Galaxy handsets will be facilitated by Samsung’s over-the-air customizing service.
Finally, Samsung and Orange will gradually expand the availability of eSIM activation to a broader variety of Samsung devices linked to Orange networks, therefore decreasing plastic waste.
