Google Introduces Second Beta of Android 15

Making the Android ecosystem more efficient, the latest Android 15 Beta 2 significantly optimizes several platform functionalities to improve the quality, speed, and battery life of Android phones, which are currently available to some supported Pixel phones. Moreover, it’s important to note that the latest Android 15 program is still running in the Beta phase, which is bound to include several bugs and other issues.

Meanwhile, Android 15 Beta 1 is now available on more Android devices

Meanwhile, Google is expanding the newest Android 15 Developer Preview Program, with several Android partners now releasing the new Android 15 Beta 1 to their phones. These Android brands include Realm, iQOO, Nothing, OnePlus, SHARP, OPPO, Tecno, Vivo, Mi, Lenovo, and HONOR, respectively.

What’s new in Android 15 Beta 2?

Private Space:

It’s impressive that Google has introduced the latest Android 15 Beta 2 with some noticeable changes and features. The second beta version of Android 15 brings private space, which adds more privacy and control over your Android device. This new feature allows users to create separate spaces to store sensitive information and apps, ensuring an additional layer of protection.

It further includes several features that help the apps improve the overall experience, including smooth transitions, helpful and more useful UI, upgrades to large-screen devices, and more.

Much improved large-screen multitasking:

It includes pinching the taskbar on the screen, which helps users quickly access and switch between apps. Users can also save their favourite apps in the split screen mode for faster access, allowing much quicker access to the app combinations that are most important to them.

Predictive Back

This Predictive Back feature is specially made to make gesture navigation much smoother and flawless. It provides a smoother, more extensive navigation experience while using gesture navigation and also involves several built-in animations so that the users are informed where their move will certainly take them, reducing some unexpected outcomes.

New data types for Health Connect:

The latest Beta 2 version of Android 15 brings two new data types for Health Connect, including Skin temperature and Training Plans. Skin Temperature allows users to track more accurate temperature data from either a wearable or other tracking device. On the flip side, Training Plans significantly include several structured workout plans to help users easily achieve their set workout goals.

Choose how the system preferences address you:

Now, users can customize how the Android system addresses them with a grammatical gender preference. However, it’s currently rolling out in French, and Google plans to expand this functionality to even more languages soon. Moreover, this newest setting can be found within the system language setting: Settings >> System >> Languages & input >> System languages >> Choose how you are addressed.

AV1 Software decoding is now more efficient:

A popular AV1 software decoder from VideoLAN, the dav1d, is now available for old devices that don’t support the AV1 decode. This decoder is said to be up to 3x more performant than the legacy AV1 software decoder, which certainly enables HD AV1 playback for more users.

The Android ANGLE and Vulkan:

Vulkan is the most preferred interface for the GPU, and now, Google is introducing ANGLE, a new translation layer that will significantly convert OpenGL ES API calls to Vulkan. Meanwhile, Google is also planning to continue supporting OpenGL ES on all devices.

Secured background activities:

By adding several relevant changes, the new Android 15 Beta 2 will significantly help prevent malicious background apps from bringing other apps to the foreground. However, these malicious apps can easily launch another app’s activity, overlaying on the top and further creating an illusion of being that app. This is known as task hijacking. To protect your system from this problem, a new flag has been added that significantly blocks the applications that do not match the top UID.

Miscellaneous features and changes:

In addition, the other essential changes and features of the latest Android 15 Beta 2 include selected photo access improvements, permission checks on content URIs, safer intents, an Increased minimum target SDK version from 23 to 24, Picture-in-Picture, richer widget previews with Generated Previews, and two new fonts—CJK Variable Font and the new Japanese Hentaigana Font.
