So far, most phones can only be found when they are turned on because the phone needs power to triangulate or transmit beacons for its signal, which other devices pick up and tell where the user’s device is. But Find My Device can now find any phone even when it is turned off or their battery is dead. One of them will be the OnePlus 13 device.
Making Android phones findable without power through Find My Device will require special hardware to be included in the device. This special hardware can keep the Bluetooth controller running for hours even when the OS is turned off and the main battery is drained.
Additionally, some changes to the software will need to be made to add support for powered-off finding that will allow the Find My Device service to store precomputed beacons on the Bluetooth controller while the phone is on.
Google has already made this feature available in the Pixel 8 Series and Pixel 9 Series, and now it can be seen in the OnePlus 13 soon. According to Android Authority, when the update was spotted in the OxygenOS 15 beta of OnePlus 12, there was some interesting change in the changelog. It shows that “you can now find your device even when it’s turned off, increasing the chances of getting it back if it’s lost.” This makes it clear that the OnePlus 12 will also have this feature now.
However, the OnePlus 12 will not support Powered Finding as it requires some hardware changes. On the other hand, the OnePlus 13 uses the new Snapdragon 8 Elite, which will also support the FastConnect 7900 connectivity subsystem, all in one Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and UWB. According to Qualcomm, it is up to its OEM to implement and use the Fast Connect 7900 ‘Powered Finding” support and other features.
However, it is not yet clear whether the OnePlus 13 will support Powered Finding or not. If you read the changelog of OxygenOS 15 beta carefully, it is clear that this feature will definitely be available in the device in the future. However, this “Powered Finding” has already been launched in the OnePlus 13 in China but has not yet been launched globally.
