Google Introduces Real Time Protection Feature to Pixel 6 to Pixel 9 devices

Google is soon rolling out real-time protection feature for phone calls on Pixel devices. Specifically, the feature is available for devices from the Pixel 6 to Pixel 9 series. The feature will help increase security against fraudulent calls and is expected to be built with advanced AI and machine learning capabilities, as Google has built it with advanced AI and machine learning capabilities.
Real Time Protection Feature
The scam detection listens and monitors conversation patterns associated with scams, and when identified, it presents an audio and haptic alert as a potential scam and visual warning. The feature will also detect all types of suspicious call activity. It will also give users the ability to mark the call as an end call button or not a scam.

This new scam detection on the Pixel 9 series is powered by Gemini Nano. Now, this security feature is also available on the Pixel 6 series, 7 series, and 8 series, which use a robust Google on-device machine learning model. According to Google, this new feature does not store audio for transcription of any conversation on the device.
Also, these recordings are not stored on Google servers or anywhere else that can be retrieved. However, this scam detection is currently off on all devices by default, and it will be enabled for all users soon. Once rolled out, users can also enable and disable it through the phone app settings. There will also be an option to turn it off “during a specific call.” This scam detection is also available on Pixel 6 and some newer devices in the US.

The feature is rolling out to Google Public Beta users and can be enabled from the Google Phone App Settings and Scam Detection. Additionally, the brand will also provide live threat detection and send a warning for unsafe apps via Google Play Protect. The feature is live for Pixel 6+ devices and will be powered by Privacy Compute Core. This live threat detection will roll out to all other phones in the coming months.
