How to Turn off Message Requests- Nowadays we often receive messages from someone they don’t follow but message you on Instagram. It’s normal to get so many DM requests every day if you’re a celebrity or a top influencer on Instagram. Such bulk message requests can turn annoying and could affect your productivity.

Instagram now features a privacy setting to control who can message you or connect with you over DM. If you don’t want message requests from unknown Instagram users, you can turn them off altogether.

Facebook’s integration of Facebook Messenger with Instagram brought many new features to the Instagram messaging platform (like themes, emoji responses, and more). The ability to turn off message requests for new conversations is one of them.

Follow the steps below:

  • Go to your profile and open the hamburger menu (the three horizontal lines button) from the top right corner. Here, tap on “Settings” at the bottom.
  • Next, open “Privacy”  and move to the “Messages” section.
  • Under the Message Controls page, tap on “People on Facebook” or “Others on Facebook” and choose the “Don’t Receive Requests” option.
  • Similarly, tap on “Others on Instagram” and select “Don’t Receive Requests” if you do not wish to receive DM requests from strangers.

It’s Done. You have now disabled message requests on both Instagram and Facebook.

Note: Once this feature is enabled, only Instagram users who you follow or who are in your contact book will be able to message you. The Message button will still be visible on your profile, but when they try to message you, they’ll see an error message saying “[The user] can’t receive your message. They don’t allow new message requests from everyone.”
