Google has been working on customizing the Google Search widget for a long time now. In the redesign, the brand removed most of the options and also added some more dynamic colors. However, this new feature is not rolling out to devices yet. It is confirmed that it will be seen in Pixel and Samsung devices soon.
After the rollout, you first had to place a widget of “Google” on your device’s home screen and then open the Google app > tap on the profile photo to open the account menu > Settings > Search Widget > Customize widget, but now you can change it too.
Google Search Widget Embraces Dynamic Color
The bar will show you several options to use the Google logo or the multicoloured ‘G’ on the left. To choose the shape of the bar, you have to choose between a rectangle with sharp corners, a rectangle with rounded corners, or a pill.
Then, you’ll see a four-colour icon with a dark background, light grey, black with white, or custom with hue and saturation adjustments for a bar colour. You can also choose the bar shading from transparent to solid using a slider.
Google now lets you choose from only set-color themes that you can set as the system default with a light or dark background. Also, the lens, microphone, and G icons stick with the official four-colour design. Additionally, the Google app on iOS also now offers different icons. This new feature adds a new dynamic colour to the device.
Previously, it was only available on the search bar at the bottom of the Pixel Launcher when you enabled the themed icons, which also had an Undo option in the corner to reset.
You can add it by tapping “Add” on your home screen. This new app beta from Google can be seen on Pixel and Samsung Galaxy with version 15.30.x, but it has not yet been rolled out widely.
