Google introduced the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro in the I/O 2022, held in May. However, they were launched in October 2022. At the same time, the company has previewed the best mid-range smartphone, the Pixel 7a, in the I/O 2023 event held in May. All these smartphones come with stunning features and a user-friendly interface, thanks to Google’s Pixel UI. So, the users with these Pixel devices must wonder how many software upgrades these devices will get.
Software & Security Updates:
The Pixel 7, 7 Pro, and 7a come with the Android 13 update out of the box. In its I/O event, Google has dictated its software upgradation policy in which the company has announced that all these devices will get three years of major OS updates along with five years of security updates. All these Pixel devices power a second-gen Google Tensor chip and feature an intuitive Pixel user interface.
Major OS updates:
As promised by Google in its I/O event, the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro, which come with Android 13, will receive three years of major OS updates, which means both of these devices will get their major OS update till Android 16, or what Google brings till 2025.
On the other hand, the Pixel 7a, which was launched in May 2023 at I/O, also comes with an Android 13 update, and it will also receive three years of major OS updates, which means Pixel 7a will get its major OS update till the Android 16, or what Google brings till 2026.
Security Updates:
Talking about Security updates, Google has committed that the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro will be getting five years of security updates till 2027.
Meanwhile, at least the Pixel 7a, which came in 2023, will receive five years of security updates till 2028 at least.
