Google’s latest Android OS version, Android 15, is still in development but will soon enter the stable channel, as this version has already achieved the platform stability phase. Meanwhile, Google is still experimenting with several features and functionalities, including the Contact Key feature.

Meanwhile, Android 15’s first Beta significantly gave us a view of the new Contact Key Manager, which is said to facilitate end-to-end encryption within Android apps and give users a unified way to manage and verify their contacts’ public keys.

The Android 15 first beta introduced the Contact Key API, which will be significantly managed by Google Play Services. Meanwhile, some fresh strings and folks have been spotted in the latest Google Play Services beta version, which eventually hints at the workings of this new Contact Key feature.

The latest folk suggested three activities- Onboarding, ScanQRCode, and ShowQRCode, respectively. Also, through the folks, it is said that the new Contact Keys will rely on the Google Contacts app, provided that users who want to see whether all their apps are end-to-end encrypted can scan the QR code placed on the person’s Google Contacts app.

Moreover, Apple offers a similar feature on iOS called Contact Key Verification, which allows users to receive automatic alerts to verify that they are communicating with the people they want to interact with.

On the flip side, it’s expected that Google will introduce a highly similar version of its Contact Key Manager feature with Android 15 as it is on iOS. Although this feature could change its workings in the future, for now, it’s a significant step by Google for the aecosystem.
