Google Drive is adding auto-generated captions to video uploads and has rolled them out widely. Additionally, Google is using “Speech recognition technology” to transcribe audio. While the feature is available for personal accounts, users will need to “request automatic captions after uploading a video to Drive.”
Only then will users be able to take advantage of it, and you can also have it through Google Workspace. Customers will be able to automatically caption their videos as they upload them unless their admin disables the feature. To use it, first open the Drive video, then manage caption tracks, and lastly, Generate automatic captions, or go to the three dots menu at the top right and then manage caption tracks.
Finally, right-click on Generate automatic captions. You will now have to manually request automatic captions for any videos uploaded before this new update, which may take some time to process. You can also view them in a YouTube-esque player by tapping “CC.” This feature lets you easily search for captions based on the content of the video, making it much easier to find the exact file you need.
This feature can automatically generate captions for media stored in Drive, improving accessibility and saving you the effort of manually creating captions. Support for automatically generated captions is now available in English, and other languages are planned in the future.
