Google Will Launch Satellite SOS on the Pixel 9 Series

The Google Pixel 9 series was launched a few days ago, and now a new feature, Satellite SOS on the Pixel 9 will also be released soon. However, this feature was unveiled at the time of the device’s launch. The Satellite SOS feature will be released for the Pixel 9, 9 Pro, 9 Pro XL, and 9 Pro Fold.

This series comes with the Tensor G4 chip, while it also uses the new Exynos 5400 modem, which makes it better to support satellite connectivity. However, this modem was also seen on some Samsung devices. However, some leaks have confirmed that this feature will only be available in the US with the launch.
After this, Google has also confirmed that Satellite SOS on the Pixel 9 will be available on the support page and will be available only in the lower 48 US states. The feature is available on the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold. According to Google, this satellite SOS will expand to other countries soon, but the date is not yet confirmed. This feature is expected to expand to older Pixels, but there is no official confirmation of this.
This feature will enable calls through emergency services and will not require mobile data or Wi-Fi. It will also allow you to start sending messages from the satellite through Satellite SOS. This feature can only be used through Google’s Dialer app.
You cannot access Satellite SOS without Google Messages or the Personal Safety App. Before using it, an “emergency questionnaire” will appear, after which you will be able to notify a few selected emergency contacts. There is also a demo of Satellite SOS on the Pixel 9 available through the “security and emergency” section of the settings menu, and it disables your mobile data while the demo is running.
Google has partnered with Garmin and Skylo to operate Satellite SOS on the Pixel 9 series. This feature will coordinate the response using Garmin Response’s vast global network of law enforcement agencies, emergency service providers, search and rescue professionals, embassies, coast guards, and more.
On the other hand, Skylo provides a satellite network that the Pixel 9 can use. It has worked to make Skylo’s satellite connectivity accessible and affordable to all. Both Android teams have worked together to make comprehensive “direct-to-devicesatellite connectivity available to users. However, Apple has also partnered with another satellite network, Globostar, to facilitate emergency SOS connectivity.
