WhatsApp is rolling out a new feature for Android with the Beta 2.24.16.19 update that will allow users to mention contacts in status updates. This feature allows users to include specific contacts directly in their status updates by notifying them through a mention.
Mention Contacts in Status Updates
According to the Wabetainfo This feature will only work when a contact is mentioned, and they will also receive a notification. This new feature will make it easier for users to connect with their intended audience. It appears that WhatsApp is currently testing this feature.
After mentioning a connection, users can also try sharing photos and videos through status updates. A button will also appear within the caption bar while sharing, and it will provide a message in the user’s chat. This ensures that the conversation between contacts remains private, and the status is visible only to those people whom the user has selected.
Additionally, these contacts can include a new reshare button within the status screen in the status update, which also helps increase the contact’s reach. However, this feature is available to some beta testers in a status update, which users can install from the Google Play Store soon. It will be rolled out widely soon.
WhatsApp’s new upcoming features:
- Video note mode
- Share music audio during video calls.
- Account Restrictions
- Filter feature
- AR feature for call effects and filters
- New channel analytics feature, etc.
