Is The Pixel 8 Series Waterproof?

Crafted by Google, the newest Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro are being built with advanced AI capabilities to offer a more useful and personalized experience. Both these latest devices are fully loaded with several interesting features and come with some enhancements in certain areas. Powered with advanced Google Tensor G3, the new Pixel 8 series features best-in-class functionalities, including a great and bright Actua display, an improved camera, seven years of software support, and more. Meanwhile, offering such amazing features, Pixel fans are very curious to know whether the latest Pixel 8 series is waterproof or not.
Google Pixel 8 Series Sports IP68 Ratings:
Despite coming with several advanced features and enhancements, the latest Pixel 8 series also induces a standard level of protection against dust and water, with IP68 ratings. Meanwhile, the IP or the Ingress Protection ratings are the protection ratings given to a device if it’s tested under certain laboratories to be dust and water-resistant. IP ratings consist of two components: solid Ingress Protection ratings and liquid Ingress Protection ratings. The first digit following the IP rating indicates the device has protection against solid ingress like fine dust particles. In contrast, the last digit in an IP rating highlights the protection against liquid ingress such as water.
Moreover, if the first digit is 6 in an IP rating, then the device has solid protection against fine dust, making it dust resistant. On the other hand, if the last digit in an IP rating is 8, then the device is protected against a slight submersion in water for about 30 minutes. Therefore, the newest Pixel 8 series has been rated IP68 under IEC standard 60529, which makes both the device dust and water-resistant, but they are not waterproof.
Although water and dust resistance are not permanent conditions, they diminish or get removed with time due to normal wear and tear, device repair, disassemble, or damage. Submerging your phone underwater can cause severe harm to your device. In order to let your Pixel device last a little longer, you need to avoid actions that can cause water damage.
Keep your phone dry
- Don’t submerge your phone underwater.
- Don’t take your phone for certain water activities, including swimming or diving.
If your phone falls into water
- Lift your phone immediately out of the water.
- Switch it off.
- Dry it with a soft cloth.
- Set it on a flat surface so that it can dry up automatically at room temperature.
