Google has always been ahead in terms of updates, whether it is talking about updating an app or its own Pixel phone. At the moment, reports indicate that Google is increasing its limit for supplying more software upgrades to its Pixel 8 device. Pixel devices have always been the best smartphones for the lifespan of major Android OS updates.

Currently, Google is providing three years of major Android OS upgrades and up to four years of security patches. On the other hand, Samsung has already been following this scheme of providing upgrades since last year with Galaxy S21, S22, Flip 3, and Fold 3, and to be continued through models released this year, which includes some of the company’s more low-cost releases.

If the news is to be believed, Google might provide 5 years of updates to Pixel phones on having existing powered models after Android 13, 14, and 15. On the other hand, the Pixel 6 device will get another two years of security patches, which should let the users conveniently keep using their phone, admitting without major operating system upgrades during those last two years.

However, Google continuously provides many new Android features that are delivered through app upgrades and Google Play services, by which the user’s smartphone does not lag behind much modernity.

Jumping on Apple, the brand released the iPhone XS in September 2018, running on iOS 12, which will get iOS 17 come down. Whereas the iPhone 6S by 2015 is grabbing security patches till now on iOS 15 and recently stands bashful of 8 years of updates.

Moreover, the current news highly indicates that compared to the iPhone, Google is also working on providing more software upgrades to the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro. However, how many years of OS updates the Pixel 8 series will get has yet to be determined. But it is expected that Google’s promise about Pixel 8’s upgrade should be superior to Samsung’s recent strategy on flagships and meaningfully match Apple.
