Google recently released its Pixel 8 lineup, which includes Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, with lots of new features and improvements for enhancing the user’s seamless experience. The noticeable point here is Google not only offers new innovation but also has removed the “Photo Sphere” mode from Pixel phones and started it with the Pixel 8 series.
Google on Nexus 4 debuted Photo Sphere in 2012, must say it every so often worked well and was an appreciable feat of the company. And now it has been decided that this feature is finally going away.
What Is ‘Photo Sphere’?
Photo Sphere is a part of Google Workspace. It is a Google Camera feature that could capture images of the user’s surrounding atmosphere in the style of something like Google Street View. Also, this was developed by capturing various images and letting the phone stitch them together afterwards. It permits the users to capture a full 360-degree view of their surroundings.
In the recent development of the Google Camera app’s new version, the company from the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro has removed Photo Sphere as a part of Google Camera 9.1. But here’s the question: why did the company make such a decision? It is incomprehensible. Also, the company declined to elaborate on a reason for dropping the PhotoSphere feature from Pixel Phones.
It can be assumed that the mechanism of capturing a Photo Sphere was not seamless owing to the sheer number of images required, even though it had an admittedly natural UI. The other common issue it includes is white balance differences and significant stitching issues & exposures. Because of all these issues, the company may decide to drop the Photosphere feature.
Also, it has not gotten too much attention, and rarely do the users know about this feature. However, the feature is still in place on earlier Pixel releases such as Pixel Fold, Pixel 7, etc, at least on Google Camera 9.0. Also, Google Camera version number 9.1 is yet to roll out to older Pixel devices, so let’s just wait and watch if it’s removed at that point or not.
