  • Google is rolling out a new playback UI for voice recordings with Material 3 design.
  • In the previous UI, the audio playback consisted of a thin horizontal line with a small circle for playing.
  • It seems like Google hasn’t rolled out the playback UI design widely, but it has been spotted in the Google Messages running Beta version.

Google has been ensuring much more advanced and convenient ways to stay connected with your loved ones by introducing several updates to Google Messages. Similarly, soon after introducing a new yet pretty basic camera UI, Google Messages brings a new Material 3 Slider while upgrading its playback UI.

Earlier, the audio playback UI consisted of a thin horizontal line along with a small circle, but now the upgraded UI, which has been spotted within the latest version of Google Messages running Beta version with the 20240312_00_RC00version number, gets a new Material 3 design with a pill-shaped audio timeline that is comparatively thicker, and the small circle has been replaced with a vertical line for the playhead that doesn’t blink or react when it’s selected or dragged.

With that, you will notice a small dot at the end of the audio playback timeline, which is nothing useful but rather signifies that the audio ends here. The new audio playback user interface (UI) prominently appears within the text field during the recording process.

In addition, you will get to see a completely different UI soon after you have sent your recorded voice message. In contrast, this new voice recording redesign is yet to be seen widely, which significantly allows users to get the big keyboard-sized recording panel when they tap the button to record audio.
