Google is Working on Letting Users Edit an RCS Chat in Google Messages on Android
Google is constantly working on improving the functionality of Google Messages so that users can get the best inline messaging experience, ensuring more convenience. Meanwhile, Google is working on letting users edit an RCS chat within Google Messages, while some Android users have already received this newest capability.
Google Messages will now allow users to edit their RCS chat significantly, while this capability was not present earlier. This newest capability to edit an RCS chat in Google Messages will allow users to have more line with other messaging services, as some other messaging applications, such as WhatsApp, seamlessly allow users to edit their sent messages.
Messages users will be able to edit their messages within 15 minutes
Shared by @Jhowkira2000 on X via Android Police, Google Messages users will now have 15 minutes to edit their message after sending, which is similar to what other applications offer like WhatsApp. Once this new capability to edit an RCS chat is functional, long pressing on a message that you wish to edit will now show a new Pencil (edit) icon, which is placed next to the Copy, Delete, Star icons, and three-dot menu, respectively.
However, it’s important to note that the user can still read the original message by tapping the three dots menu and selecting the View details options. Google Messages users will be able to see this new addition of the Editing capability of RCS chat when both users in the conversation have this function live.
Also, this newest capability to edit an RCS chat is currently spotted with some beta testers, which certainly means that this could be a limited rollout. It’s not official whether Google wants to release this RCS chat editing capability widely.
