The brand added public transport directions earlier this year, and now Google Maps is getting redesigned tiles and two new complications for Wear OS. These will be rolled out to Wear OS soon, but the brand has not confirmed the rollout date.

The Google Maps tile allows users to “Search and Go.” Earlier, the device had two pill-shaped buttons for ‘Home and Work’. Instead of these two-shaped buttons, users can get three blue circles under the “Search and GO” sections. These shortcuts are still present but now appear as blue circles with the icons, home and briefcase, which seems redundant.

The microphone in this row opens up a voice search to quickly specify a location. At the end of this row, you also get a “Map” shortcut, and it is expected that this feature is currently in testing. This feature can be launched soon and come with more capabilities. Wear OS tiles provide easy access to users. These tiles and new highlights may arrive via an update with Google Maps for Wear OS version 11.137.0703.W

In this new feature, tile runs as a part of the System UI. To use Wear OS tile, you need to follow these steps –

  • Create a tile service.
  • Test the tile on a device.
  • Preview the UI for the tile in Android Studio.
  • Develop the UI for the tile.
  • Add images.
  • Handle interactions.
