Google has always worked to provide the most convenient and advanced experience to the audience by constantly updating its apps and services. The same goes for Google Maps, as it’s been the most popular and best mapping and navigation application for Android owners. A while ago, Google officially announced that the Maps’ Location history, which was cloud-based for a long time, would now be stored on your smartphone rather than saved in cloud servers. Meanwhile, the company has now started rolling out this change for additional safety and privacy of the users.

Google Maps Location History will now be termed as Timeline

The new change in Google Maps is fascinating because of the replacement of the Location History feature, which will now be termed the Timeline feature, which will significantly allow users to head back to their entire journey to date without making any additional efforts. However, customers would always want their Maps details to be stored on their devices, as it could be too uncomfortable for them.

Maps’ Timeline on the Web will now be retreated

Through this change, the new Timeline feature will prevent all your Maps data from being migrated to Google’s server and will be stored safely on your device. Meanwhile, according to the Google Maps’ support page, the Maps Timeline feature will continue working on Android and iOS devices. However, Timeline for Web Maps will be retreated, as all the data shown on the Timeline arrives directly from your device, and it will not be available on Maps on the Web after the data is stored on your phone.

Customers will receive an email and app notifications once the change is available on their device

Once this entire change is available on your Google Account, you will receive an email and app notifications. The company presents a warning stating that you might lose all your Timeline data if you don’t update the settings by the deadline mentioned in the email and app notifications.

You will further receive an option to automatically back up your Timeline if you need to switch devices or lose your device. Through this process, an end-to-end encrypted copy of your Timeline from your current device will be uploaded to your Google Account, which is only accessible to you.
