Leading Devices Manfacturing Company Shows How longer software and security updates support: Apple, Samsung And Google
Apple has finally confirmed how long it will update its devices and it is expected to be less than Samsung and Google’s Android. However, now you have to consider the updates of these devices before buying a new device. All these devices come for around $1000 which gets three years of updates only for software.
Apart from this, it is expected that the upgrade will be increased from three years but all phone update policies are different according to their own it was revealed some time ago that Samsung and Google will give seven years of updates to their devices which will include 5 years of OS updates and 7 years of security patch updates.
Apple, Samsung And Google: How longer software and security updates support
Some time ago, there was a rumor that Apple was also going to give 7 years of OS updates to its devices but no official news came from the company. Apple has been better than other companies in terms of updates as no error has been seen in the device after the update. Now, Apple has promised a minimum lifetime for the iPhone but has not mentioned it.
The UK Product Security and Telecommunications Infrastructure (PSTI) regulation came into effect on 29 April 2024, about which brands have started improving security which includes all IoT devices connected to the Internet. They will be provided security updates so that compliance with certain security requirements can be easily done.
The iPhone is an internet product, so Apple is required to comply with the UK’s PSTI rule. The company has recently published the compliance statement of the iPhone 15 Pro Max, which has a minimum of five years from the first supply date. According to this, the company will provide security updates for 5 Years.
Through these security updates, the software can also be protected and the problems arising in security can also be fixed. So, Google Android guarantees seven years of not only security updates but also Android OS updates for security and privacy. This is two years more than Apple which has always provided 5 years of updates for Android devices.
Some older models of iPhone have also received six or more years of security updates, but Android was far behind at that time. Because of these features, Apple is ahead of Samsung and Google in terms of software but still lags in terms of security updates. This does not mean that iPhone users will be able to use their phone for a limited time and it is hoped that Apple will start providing updates for five years or more.
