Spatial audio will be immersive in Android 15
So far, Android used to offer minimal immersive audio experience on phones, but now, with the arrival of Android 15, spatial audio has also changed. This feature will provide an incredible surround sound experience, unlike most mobile devices, which need more speakers arranged. The immersive listening experience is expected to be enhanced with Pixel Buds Pro, called spatial audio. It is going to be even better in the upcoming Android 15 update.
However, most headphones and wireless earbuds come with only two stereo speakers. Many speakers are now being used in the device for a better audio and entertainment experience. Spatial audio is also needed for these speakers. This spatial audio is a software trick that processes sound to create the illusion that the sound is coming from different directions.
Spatial audio in Android 15
Spatial audio helps make listening on mobile a richer and more immersive experience, especially when watching a show or movie. Earlier, Google added AIPs 13 to support spatial audio in Android, but this did not prove to be very effective. All wired and wireless audio devices can support spatial audio, and it also gets better quality through software.
Apart from this, Dynamic is working on a separate feature to control voice and other things through head movements for spatial audio. However, having a head-tracking sensor in the headset seems a bit difficult because things can change if you Accidentally turn your neck.
Additionally, the device will need to be configured to use the Bluetooth audio codec on dynamic spatial audio, which can also give the headset the ability to process audio very fast while tracking the user’s head movements. Thus, this dynamic spatial audio can also be a power-intensive one.
For dynamic spatial audio, one has to switch to Bluetooth LE audio, which transmits audio at lower energy than standard Bluetooth and consumes less power. This feature is expected to be used in Android 15. However, last month, Google announced that Android 15 will support dynamic spatial audio and LE audio, as they will also get latency and good quality audio to save battery life.
