Gemini Nano is Google’s AI model within the Gemini family that significantly enhances several AI capabilities on the devices so that the device can efficiently execute specific AI tasks. Meanwhile, among other Pixels, only the Pixel 8 Pro is the one that can use the Gemini Nano, but after hearing the roar of the audience, Google had to make this Gemini Nano model available to the Pixel 8 and the Pixel 8a as well. Now, Google is rolling out the Gemini Nano model to its Pixel 8 smartphone through the Android AICore app.

The new Gemini Nano support is spotted on the Pixel 8 but not on the Pixel 8a yet

It appears that Google has started rolling out its Gemini Nano within the Android AICore app update on the Pixel 8 smartphone. As revealed by some recent reports, this update significantly constitutes a toggle responsible for enabling the Gemini Nano capabilities in the Pixel 8 devices. In contrast, no such update could be noticed in the Pixel 8a.

Both the Google Pixel 8 and 8a lack the AI feature. At the same time, the new toggle added within the latest Android AICore app update to bring the Gemini Nano will allow users to enable several AI features under the hood significantly. However, the toggle has to be manually enabled as it’s turned off by default.

Meanwhile, the rolling out of the Gemini Nano within the Android AICore app update is only spotted on the Pixel 8 as of now. However, there are no reports that the new update is also arriving on the Pixel 8a yet. In contrast, Google will bring the Gemini Nano support to the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8a in the upcoming Pixel Feature Drop. Plus, it’s important to note that turning on the toggle does not enable the Gemini Nano capabilities within the Pixel 8 smartphone.

Once the Gemini Nano support is widely rolled out to all Pixel 8 and Pixel 8a customers, they will first need to activate the Developers option and then toggle the new Enabled on-device GenAI features setting, which can be found by going through Settings >> Developers options >> AICore Settings
